Vidur Vyas is a 13 year old. He loves skating, cricket and basketball. His favourite hobby is playing brain games like chess. His life motto is to always do the right thing.
Today I am going to share my experience and journey of how I got interested in playing badminton. It all started when I was 9 years old. I saw some people in my colony playing badminton. I enjoyed watching their game and got interested in knowing more about it. After some time, I approached them and asked them more about the game. They explained me the rules of the game and invited me to play with them. That's how I got into playing badminton.
After that, I went home and asked my father to buy me two racquets and a shuttle cock to play the game with my friends. He told me that he would bring it while coming home from office the next day. At first, I didn't even know how to serve but by practising daily, soon I learnt it and started playing with my best friend, Dhruv. He and I got better as time passed and developed good skills and strength. Then, we invited other friends to play with us too.
Badminton is a game where in you have to hit a shuttle cock using a racquet across a net. The game is played in two ways - singles or doubles. The team which drops the shuttle gives a point to the other team. Similarly, there are more rules - action, body touch, 3 serves, cut and more. The actual badminton game has many rules, but the badminton which I and my friends play is a simplified version.
After 2 years of playing badminton with my friends, I got pretty good at it. When my elder brother came home, he helped me improve my badminton skills furthermore. Initially, my wrist used to pain when I tried becoming faster, but I slowly got better with practice and useful tips from my brother. My agility and speed improved and became the best player in my colony. My strength in badminton is attacking and smash. The fact that I became so good at playing the game without going to any classes is cool. For doubles, my partner would always be Dhruv. Before leaving Mumbai, my brother gifted me a Yonex badminton set! Everything was fine until 2020 came and it was complete lockdown. Since we were not allowed to go anywhere, I completely stopped playing badminton. After lockdown ended, we shifted to a nearby society. I made new friends and started playing badminton with them. Because I had learnt it so well, I was able to play well even after such a long period.
In this society, there is a long road where I play badminton with my friends. Whenever I and my friend, Vedansh team up for doubles, we are literally unbeatable. And when we are playing a singles match against each other, our match goes on for 20-25 minutes! I will continue playing badminton and get better at it day by day.
Lastly, my family and friends had asked me certain questions about badminton.
Why do I like badminton?
I like badminton because it improves my flexibility, reflexes, muscles and bones.
